Clearwater Firefighters Participate in 2009 National Fallen Firefighter Memorial

Clearwater, Fla. - Members of the Clearwater Fire & Rescue Honor Guard will travel to Emmitsburg, Maryland to assist with the command and coordination of the 28th Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial on Sunday, October 4, 2009. The nine participating members’ duties include flag and pin presentations to family members of fallen firefighters and coordinating movements for the 1,000 plus Honor Guard members participating in the service.

This is the eighth year CFR Honor Guard has participated in the large-scale service to honor fallen firefighters nationwide. During the service, a plaque with the names of 103 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2008 will be added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial. Thirty-six states experienced line-of-duty deaths in 2008, including two in Florida.
